Yamal’s government enters concession agreement to build toll bridge

The concession agreement is planned to be signed before yearend

TASS, October 24. Authorities of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region will enter before the yearend a concession agreement on construction of a toll bridge across the Pur River, the regional governor’s press service told TASS.

In summer, the way to cross the river is to use pontoons, in winter - to drive on ice. The new bridge will connect year-round the local settlements with the mainland. The region’s southern part, which has well-developed transport infrastructures, will get connected with the developing Arctic territories. On the Pur’s right shore, the fuel and energy sector’s 14 enterprises develop their fields.

"The regional government is working on a concession agreement," the press service said. "An investor in construction of the bridge across the Pur will be chosen in a competition."

"We plan to sign the concession agreement before 2018 ends," the press service told TASS. "The construction will continue for 32 months, and the concession agreement’s term will be 15 years."

On October 20, the region’s Governor Dmitry Artyukhov said the bridge construction would begin in the coming winter to be over in 2021. The construction’s estimated cost is 6.9 billion rubles ($105 million), the press service continued.

"We would like to stress - only trucks will pay for using the bridge," the press service said. "Small vehicles and residents of the neighboring districts will use the bridge for free."

"We forecast, 2,500 vehicles will cross the bridge every day," the press service added.

Specialists say the construction will be in complicated engineering and geology conditions, which have been reflected in the project.
