Russia may appeal against Hague court decision on claim of Ukrainian companies

The Russian Ministry of Justice plans to appeal against decision of the Hague arbitration on collection of $159 mln from Russia under the claim of Ukrainian companies

ST. PETERSBURG, May 18. /TASS/. The Russian Ministry of Justice will with a high degree of probability appeal against decision of the Hague arbitration on collection of $159 mln from Russia under the claim of Ukrainian companies, acting minister Alexander Konovalov said on Friday.

"It was clear from the very beginning that the decision that would most probably be issued [I would like to reiterate that I am unaware of details, we have not participated and have not arranged participation in these processes] will be negative for Russia. It means that it will be appealed with a high degree of probability," the official said.

It was reported earlier that the arbitration panel set under the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague announced an end to hearing of the case filed by Ukrainian companies and an individual in respect of property loss in Crimea. According to Ukrainian mass media, the arbitration awarded $159 mln in compensation for assets lost.
