Militants defeated in Syria build up forces in Afghanistan — Russian general

A Russian general warns militants are building up their forces in Afghanistan

DUSHANBE, December 19. /TASS/. After the strongest units of the Islamic State terror group (outlawed in Russia) have been defeated in Syria, the militants are starting to build up their forces in Afghanistan, Russia’s Central Military District Commander Lieutenant General Alexander Lapin said.

"The Russian troops together with the Syrian army completed the defeat of the strongest units of the Islamic State in the Middle East," he said. "However, it is too early to say that the fight against the global terrorist threat is over. Militants defeated in Syria have been building up their forces in Afghanistan. The enemy is well-trained and motivated, and it should not be underestimated," Lapin said.
