General Staff chief not ruling out Russian military contingent in Syria may be cut

The Russian president earlier said the operation against terrorists in Syria was coming to an end

SOCHI, November 23. /TASS/. The number of Russian military forces in Syria may be cut, Chief of Russia’s General Staff Valery Gerasimov told reporters on Thursday.

"Probably, this will happen," Gerasimov said.

On November 22, during the visit of Syrian President Bashar Assad to Sochi, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the operation against terrorists in Syria was coming to an end. "A lot should be done to achieve a complete victory over terrorism," Putin said. "But as far as our cooperation in the fight against terrorists in Syria goes, the military operation is really coming to an end," he said.
