MOSCOW, October 30. /TASS/. Russia’s aerospace forces have destroyed more than 1,600 terrorist infrastructure facilities in Syria over the month of the anti-Islamic State operation, Russian General Staff’s Main Operations Department Col.-Gen. Andrey Kartapolov said on Friday.

"A month has passed since the launch of the Russian air operation in Syria and it is time to sum up some results. Over the past month, our warplanes have flown 1,391 sorties and destroyed 1,623 terrorist targets," he said.

Thus, he said, these targets included 249 control and communications centres, 51 training camps, 35 plants and workshops for the production of explosive devices, 131 munitions depots, 371 strongholds, and 786 field camps and bases.

Russia’s aerospace forces launched pinpoint strikes against the Islamic State targets in Syria on September 30. The Russian air group in Syria comprises more than 50 warplanes and helicopters. According to Russian Defence Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov, air strikes are delivered at military hardware, communications centres, transport vehicles, munitions depots and other terrorist infrastructure facilities. The military operation is conducted at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Russia has repeatedly said it does not plan to take part in any ground operations in Syria. On October 7, Russian warships of the Caspian Fleet fired cruise missiles of the Calibr-NK system at Islamic State targets from the Caspian Sea.
