Up to 1,000 servicemen to exercise in Transbaikal Territory in late September

MOSCOW, September 8. /TASS/. Around 1,000 troops and about 100 items of combat and special hardware will be used in the brigade-level tactical exercise to take place in the Trans-Baikal Territory in East Siberia late in September, Alexander Gordeyev, chief of the Eastern Military District press office, told journalists on Tuesday.

According to Gordeyev, the tank units stationed in Buryatia are gearing up for the drills.

"At present, the crews of T-72B3 tanks are training for unit cohesion and refining their skills in firing main guns and machineguns day and night," Gordeyev said.

The personnel also are given extra training in driving their combat vehicles, fording rivers and organizing primary and alternate positions, the press office chief said.

He added that the exercise was slated for late September at a training facility in the Trans-Baikal Territory.
