Russian Baltic Sea Fleet ships drill antisubmarine warfare

The troops practised firing their RBU-6000 antisubmarine rocket launchers and launching torpedoes and air defense missiles during the exercise

KALININGRAD, September 8. /TASS/. The Project 1331M Zelenodolsk and Urengoi antisubmarine warfare (ASW) frigates have destroyed a simulated enemy submarine during an exercise in the Baltic Sea, the fleet’s press officer chief, Vladimir Matveyev, said on Tuesday.

"An ASW task force of the Baltic Fleet has conducted an exercise, during which the crews of the Zelenodolsk and Urengoi sharpened their skills in seeking for and destroying a submarine of the notional enemy," the naval officer said. He added that the Project 877 Vyborg diesel-electric submarine simulated the enemy boat.

A Ka-27 ASW (NATO reporting name Helix) helicopter assisted the frigates in searching for the submarine. The troops practised firing their RBU-6000 antisubmarine rocket launchers and launching torpedoes and air defense missiles during the exercise.
