Russian cutting-edge frigate completes shipbuilders’ sea trials

The second Project 22350 frigate Admiral Kasatonov has successfully completed shipbuilders’ sea trials

MOSCOW, January 9. /TASS/. The second Project 22350 frigate Admiral Kasatonov built at the Severnaya Verf Shipyard in St. Petersburg in northwest Russia has successfully completed shipbuilders’ sea trials, Russian Navy spokesman Igor Dygalo said on Wednesday.

"The newest Project 22350 frigate Admiral Kasatonov built for the Russian Navy at the Severnaya Verf Shipyard (St. Petersburg) has successfully completed the first stage of shipbuilders’ sea trials at practice ranges of the Baltic Sea and has returned to St. Petersburg," Dygalo said.

During the trials, the shipbuilders checked some of the frigate’s life support, propulsion and damage control systems and the autonomous operation of radio-technical equipment, communications, air conditioning and ventilation systems, and also the warship’s speed, maneuverability and lateral stability, the spokesman said.

"The trials will be continued after the ice situation in the Gulf of Finland improves," the Navy’s spokesman said.

The frigate Fleet Admiral Kasatonov is the second (the first serial-produced) Project 22350 warship. The Project was developed by the Severnoye Design Bureau. The lead warship of this series, the Admiral Gorshkov, was delivered to the Navy in the summer of 2018 and the construction of two more frigates (the Admiral Golovko and the Admiral Isakov) continues at the slipways of the Severnaya Verf Shipyard in St. Petersburg.

Project 22350 frigates are expected to become the Russian Navy’s most advanced warships in their class. These frigates displace 4,500 tonnes and can develop a speed of 29 knots. They are armed with Oniks and Kalibr missiles and the Poliment-Redut air defense missile system.
