MOSCOW, July 19. /TASS/. The advanced weapons systems, showcased on Thursday by the Russian Defense Ministry are a means of enhancing global stability and preventing conflicts, said Igor Korotchenko, the editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine.
"The Russian Federation is not threatening anyone, but, nevertheless, emerging threats and challenges objectively require the upgrade of its defense potential. The reinforcement of Russian strategic nuclear forces… is an insurance against the third World War. Therefore, Russia’s new weapons promote peace and encourage stability," the expert told TASS.
Korotchenko said that those advanced weaponry systems had already entered limited production.
"New footage of combat use, and, most importantly test serial production of the new systems at defense enterprises, have been made public," the expert said. "From now on, nobody has reasons to doubt their existence and operability."
"Competent Western analysts drew relevant conclusions long ago. However, there were those who tried to make sensations out of nothing, saying that it was all just cartoons. This will serve as a great evidence that Russia’s statements are substantiated, and that real production of such systems is currently under way in our country."
For example, fighter jets armed with Kinzhal hypersonic missiles are already on combat duty in the Caspian region. Russia’s advanced Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) has completed pop-up trials and is about to begin flight tests. Besides, Russia is preparing tests of prototypes of upgraded nuclear-powered Burevestnik cruise missile with an unlimited range and of the Poseidon unmanned underwater drone. The Avangard missile complex with a completely new gliding maneuverable warhead and the Peresvet laser complexes are already being supplied to the troops.
