North Korean semi-submersible craft close to South Korea

TOKYO, June 17 (Itar-Tass) - North Korea has concentrated near the Northern Limit Line with South Korea in the Yellow Sea fast semi-submersible craft that can also move fully submerged, the Seoul Chosun Ilbo newspaper reported on Monday.

Earlier, they were docked at a remote port, but now they have been seen at a forward base, the newspaper writes.

The boats used to carry commandos into an enemy territory can develop a speed of 70 kilometers per hour moving above the surface. If necessary, they can semi-submerge or fully submerge 10 to 20 meters to remain unnoticed by radars. The boats are equipped with light torpedoes.

Seoul does not rule out that Pyongyang may be preparing some military operation in the Yellow Sea. It has been reported that over the recent time civil ships of North Korea have been repeatedly violating the so-called Northern Limit Line.
