US efforts to ensure proper representation of opposition at Syria conference may fail

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich expresses his concerns upon the upcoming international conference on Syria

MOSCOW, June 14 (Itar-Tass) - US efforts to ensure proper representation of oppositionists at the upcoming international conference on Syria are obviously failing to achieve the result, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday.

“Reports are coming about the decision made by the US to increase aid to the Syrian opposition and for the first time they offer military aid, including arms supplies. As substantiation references are made to American secret services that have grounds to believe that the government troops of the Syrian Arab Republic allegedly used chemical weapons,” the diplomat said.

These reports cannot but cause “serious concerns”. “Apart from other things, they suggest that US efforts to ensure due representation of oppositionists at the prepared international conference on Syria are obviously stalling,” he noted.
