Surgeon Alexander Vishnevsky dies at age 73

He was the head of the scientific and clinical school of the Vishnevskys dynasty

MOSCOW, May 31 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s outstanding surgeon Alexander Vishnevsky died in Moscow on Thursday, the A.V. Vishnevsky Institute of Surgery reported on Friday.

“We regret to inform that on May 30, distinguished surgeon, scientist, successor of the great surgical dynasty Alexander Alexandrovich Vishnevsky died at the age of 73,” his obituary notice says.

Alexander Vishnevsky was the head of the scientific and clinical school of the Vishnevskys dynasty. For more than 39 years he headed the Thoracic Surgery Department at the Institute of Surgery named after his grandfather - Alexander Vasilyevich Vishnevsky (1874-1948). During this period he has developed a number of methods of endoscopic operations in thoracic surgery, as well as designed a surgical suture machine that is used around the world.
