MOSCOW, May 5 (Itar-Tass) - About 5,000 policemen will ensure law and order during an opposition rally in Moscow’s Bolotnaya Square on Monday, May 6, a spokesman for the Moscow police department told Itar-Tass on Sunday.
“Any attempts of illegal actions will be stopped in strict compliance with the current laws, and those responsible will be held liable,” the spokesman stressed.
The opposition action is timed to mark a year’s anniversary of the May 6 events in 2012, when an opposition rally ended in clashes with the police in Bolotnaya Square. As a result, a criminal case was opened on charges of mass riots. About 30 people were brought to responsibility, some of them are still behind bars.
The organizers, the opposition coordinating council, have been authorized by the Moscow city authorities to stage a rally in Bolotnaya Square. A march has not been permitted by the authorities. The rally will be held from 19:00 to 21:30 Moscow time. The organizers expect that it will draw up to 30,000 people.
The police will install 30 access control metal detectors. In this connection, the police recommend people to arrive beforehand. Any bladed articles, big bags, plastic, glass and other containers with liquids will not be allowed.
