VLADIVOSTOK, February 19 (Itar-Tass) – Thirty-five flats are provided with heating and water supplies in the frost-stricken settlement Tiksi in Yakutia, the restoration works continue in other 77 flats, the press service of the emergency situation department in the Republic Sakha (Yakutia) said on Tuesday.
On February 14, 33 residential houses with a total of 166 flats were left without heating and water supplies.
The air temperature in Tiksi was minus 42 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning.
In the flats, where the heating supply is not restored yet, people are heating their housing with heating pads. The power utility Sakhaenergo provides the settlement with the non-stop electric power supplies.
Tiksi with the population of about 10,000 people is situated on the coast of the Arctic Ocean. The settlement has got in an emergency situation, when a boiler went out of order at the local thermal power plant. The heating and water supply systems have frozen up in most houses amid abnormally low air temperature of minus 49 degrees Celsius.
For the last few days several tonnes of technical products for the repairs of frozen heating systems were airlifted from Yakutsk to Tiksi.
