MOSCOW, January 29 (Itar-Tass) – Over 90 passengers were evacuated from an A319 airbus in the airport of Russia’s southern city of Astrakhan over smoke in its baggage hold, a spokesman for the regional emergencies department told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“Smoke was reported from the baggage compartment of the A319 jet bound from Astrakhan to Moscow at 19:44 Moscow time, when the jet was waiting for its turn to take off. No fire followed,” the spokesman said. The passengers and the crew were evacuated from the jet. “No one was hurt. The plane is being inspected,” the spokesman added.
In all, 93 people were evacuated. There were no children among them.
