MOSCOW, December 31 (Itar-Tass) – Bodily condition of the three persons who survived Saturday’s crash of a Tupolev-204 jet at Vnukovo airport in Moscow is still heavy but stable, the press service of the Russian Healthcare Ministry said Monday.
A Tupolev-204 of the Red Wings charter airline that was performing a technical return flight from the Czech Republic failed to brake after landing, overran the runway, broke through the fencing of the airdrome, and dashed on to a major automobile road linking Moscow and Ukraine.
The death toll from the accident stands at five people to date.
“A man who was admitted to the Nikolai Sklifosovsky Emergency Medicine Institute has received a vertebral surgery and his condition is heavy but stable at the moment, without any signs of a regress,” the ministry said in a report. “The patient is in full consciousness and the hospital has transferred him from artificial lung respiration to natural respiration.”
Another two survivors – a 26-year-old woman and a 32-year-old-man are getting treatment in an intensive care department of city hospital No. 1.
“The woman, who has been given anti-shock and systemic medication, is in a steadily heavy condition,” the report said. “The man is in a heavy condition with the signs of improvement.”
Physicians at the Sklifosovsky Institute /which is widely called in Moscow the Sklif/ and at hospital No. 1 are holding joint meetings with their counterparts from other leading medical institutions, like the Nikolai Burdenko Neurosurgery Institute.
All in all, the air accident had eight victims. Three members of the cockpit crew died on the spot, a man died in an ambulance car on the way to hospital and an airhostess whose traumas proved to be incompatible with life died in a hospital ward.
