MOSCOW, November 19 (Itar-Tass) — A woman driver, who knocked down three people to death at a bus stop in northern Moscow, was sober, according to preliminary reports, the press service of the Moscow main police department of the Russian Interior Ministry reported on Monday.
“According to the initial results of the expertise, the driver was sober at the moment of the road accident. The psychiatrist specialized in drug addiction conducted an initial medical examination that did not find alcohol intoxication of the driver at the moment of the road accident,” the press service said, adding that the medics had made additional tests of the woman driver.
The tragedy broke out at 19/38, Onezhskaya Street, on Monday. “The woman, who was driving a Honda-CRV jeep, skidded on the oncoming lane for the unclear reason and jumped on the walkway, after that she knocked down the pedestrians standing at the bus stop. Then the car rammed in the street lamp pylon, as a result the woman was squeezed in the car,” the press service of the police department reported.
Three people died of wounds instantaneously, the driver and another one pedestrian got various wounds.
“The criminal case was opened under Article 264 of the Criminal Code for violation of the road traffic rules and driving of vehicles that caused death of two or more people through negligence,” the press service reported.
Not the owner of the car, but a woman, who was driving the car by proxy, was behind the wheel of the jeep, a source in the law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass on Monday.
