AMMAN (Jordan), November 6 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov rules out the use of chemical weapons by the present Syrian leadership. He made this statement on Tuesday after talks with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Jauda.
“I rule out the possibility of using chemical weapons by the current regime,” Lavrov said. “We have received credible serious assurances in this respect.” The Russian foreign minister pointed out that Russia does not see any serious threat of the use of these weapons by the Syrian government. “Only if they fall into the hands of terrorists who at present feel rather at ease in Syria,” he added.
