MOSCOW, October 2 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Vladimir Putin believes it is time to change the economy of Russia’s national gas utility Gazprom although he is against separating its gas transportation arm.

“Speaking seriously, it is necessary to change the economy of companies of this type and to ensure access to transport systems, first of all to pipelines,” Putin said on Tuesday at the Russia Calling forum.

At the same time he admitted that there is little point in separating the gas transportation business. “If we do it, transport will die,” he said. In his words, the transport component presents little interest as a separate business.
