MOSCOW, September 26 (Itar-Tass) — United Russia lawmakers on Wednesday approved A Just Russia member Alexei Mitrofanov for chairman of the committee on information policy, information technologies and communications under the State Duma lower house of parliament. The predictable decision /on Monday, Mitrofanov's candidacy was reviewed at the session of United Russia's presidium/ was passed at the faction's meeting.
Earlier, State Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin said the new committee would be set up on September 28. "I believe if the decision is passed to appoint Mitrofanov head of the committee, it will work. Mitrofanov will cope with his tasks," Naryshkin said.
For his part, leader of the United Russia faction, deputy house speaker Andrei Vorobyov specified that Mitrofanov, in case of his approval, would have four first deputies from each faction. "The commission will cooperate with the mass media in this format," he added.
