Russian army to get sets for AK-74 submachine-gun upgrade

There will be three different versions

MOSCOW, September 22 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian Armed Forces will get sets for upgrading AK-74 submachine-guns.

The AK-74 is “a killer weapon and highly reliable”, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said. At the same time, he noted that “it has no good sights, laser spotter or heat imaging sight” and the sets are designed to solve this problem.

“There will be three different versions [of the set] that will allow military units to upgrade submachine-guns on their own without altering the weapons that have already been supplied to the army,” Rogozin said.

“This is a simple process: unnecessary parts are removed, new ones are put in place and you get a new-class submachine-gun,” he added.

“I suggest showing the modified AK-74 to President Dmitry Medvedev in early October,” Rogozin said.
