NALCHIK, September 20 (Itar-Tass) — Kabardino-Balkaria authorities have launched an anti-terrorist operation in Nalchik, after police received a tip that militants were hiding in the city. The regime of anti-terrorist operation was introduced from 04:00, Moscow time, on Thursday. Earlier, law-enforcement agents clashed with militants holed up in a house in Klara Tsetkin Street. Police sealed the area, an official the operations headquarters of the regional department of the National Antiterrorist Committee told Itar-Tass.

"The KB law-enforcement bodies have blocked members of an illegal paramilitary formation; their number is being ascertained," a headquarters representative said.

Earlier on Thursday, Ingushetia introduced the regime of anti-terrorist operation in the Nazran district. Reports said police are combing Tutatyev, Moskovskaya and Chechenskaya Streets on tip that militants are hiding in this district. Searches are also being conducted on the Kavkaz federal highway and near the Nazran-Beslan railway area.
