MOSCOW, September 7 (Itar-Tass) — The Moscow Mayor's Office will offer alternative routes for the opposition to organize the so-called "March of Millions" planned for September 15, one of the organizers, Pyotr Tsarkov, told Itar-Tass on Friday.
"We were invited to the mayor's office to receive an official answer to our notification about the planned rally, and it was mentioned that alternative routes would be offered to us," he said.
Officials declined to say by telephone what routes would be proposed. The answer will be received soon, and it will be clear, Tsarkov added.
The mayor's office must answer no later than this Friday to the opposition's application to organize a march in central Moscow on September 15.
Opposition activists planned to march from Tverskaya Zastava Square to Borovitskaya Square, where they planned to hold a rally. They wrote in the application that participants in the march would number 50,000.
The first application of the organizing committee was turned down, since one of the organizers, Sergei Davidis, has a record of two administrative offences within a year. Under the new regulations, he is banned from submitting an application to organize a mass event.
