SARATOV, September 5 (Itar-Tass) —— Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev urged United Russia party fellow members “not to hide behind television screens” but “to be in direct contact with people and help them solve their most urgent problems”.
Medvedev, who could not reach a farm in the Saratov region because of impassable roads on Wednesday, September 5, and had to drive all the way from the village of Shumeiko to Saratov, advised his party fellow members to “treble your efforts” in building roads.
“If we want to win the elections, we must be in direct contact with people. We call our party a party of real work, and this means that we do not avoid communication and do not hide behind television screens. We must be a party that maintains direct contact with people,” the prime minister said.
“I have driven a lot today and the roads were very bad,” he said.
He advised his party fellow members to tell people honestly that “the party addressed many issues but had no time for roads, and now we will treble our efforts to deal with roads”.
“You should talk to people as much as possible. That's the key to any victory. The party's strength is in its contact with people,” Medvedev said earlier.
He stressed, “United Russia stands practically behind all vital decisions that are implemented on the ground. You need to talk to people more. If we do that, things will go well.”
“Our task is to work hard for our people using all possibilities for that: governmental, party and public. I am absolutely convinced that a renovated and strong party will be able to cleanse itself in order to achieve the most ambitious goals. And our ultimate ambitious is that our country should live a normal life, develop and become a strong and efficient state. This is our common goal and the main goal for the party,” he said.
“The party is entering a new stage of its development. Let's make United Russia the most up-to-date, effective and attractive party of united Russia,” he called on his fellow party members.
“Any political force sets the goal of winning in the future. United Russia is not an exception. We will fight for the support of the majority of people in parliamentary elections again in five years from now and if we solve this task, and I am sure we will, it would be right to consider -- democratically, openly and competitively -- our candidates for the leadership of the State Duma,” Medvedev said.
