YESSENTUKI, Stavropol territory, September 3 (Itar-Tass) —— Over 200 encroachments on the lives of security officers and servicemen were registered in the North Caucasus from January through June, 2012. Over 100 security officers and military were killed and over 200 wounded, a source in the department of the Prosecutor-General of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasus Federal District told Itar-Tass.
The biggest number of such cases was in Dagestan where some 60 security officers were killed and 120 wounded. There were civilian losses – 25 people killed and 110 wounded, said senior councilor of justice Alexei Vasilkov, the deputy chief of the department.
Over 230 militants were detained and some 200 killed in special operations in six months, he said.
The problem of fighting extremism and terrorism, which are manifested also in attacks on security officers and military, remains acute, Vasilkov said.
