LOS CABOS, Mexico, June 19 (Itar-Tass) — President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama “was marked by an apparently beneficial, open dialogue, the Kremlin Press Secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said Monday.

He indicated that both sides have a full understanding of an absence of alternatives to a further development of Russian-American relations.

“The Presidents didn’t evade sharp topics but the meeting was keynoted by the idea that differences /of positions – Itar-Tass/ shouldn’t turn into stumbling blocks in the way of bilateral relations development,” Peskov said.

The two leaders discussed a broad enough spectrum of issues including the U.S. plans for deploying elements of its antimissile missile defense system in Europe.

“Putin repeated Russia’s position on the problem in unambiguous terms. In addition, the two sides exchanged opinions on the situation in Syria,” Peskov said. “On the background of persisting contradictions at the local level, Moscow and Washington’s strategic positions are quite consonant.”
