MOSCOW, May 10 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree “on the early termination of powers of the head of the Mordovia Republic” and appointed Vladimir Volkov as acting governor of Mordovia, the Kremlin press service reported.

The document says: “In connection with the early resignation notice of the Mordovia Republic head N. I. Merkushkin and in accordance with Article 19, paragraph ‘b’ of the Federal Law No 184-FZ of October 6, 1999 “On the general principles of the organisation of legislative (representative) bodies of executives authority of subjects of the Russian Federation” I hereby order:

To accept voluntary resignation of the Mordovia Republic head N. I. Merkushkin.

To appoint Vladimir Volkov as acting head of the Mordovia Republic until the person vested with the authority of the republic’s head assumes office.

This decree comes into force on the date of signature.”
