Sappers to clean of mines Chechnya’s Grozny, Shelkovskaya districts.

The demining of Chechnya started in mid-March

MOSCOW, April 6 (Itar-Tass) —— Sappers of the Southern Military District will clean the territories of Chechnya’s Grozny and Shelkovskaya districts of mines in May, district spokesman Col. Igor Gorbul told Itar-Tass on Friday.

He said the mine cleaning works would be done by servicemen of the district’s separate engineering brigade. They are being trained in the Moscow region.

By now, Southern Military District servicemen have cleared of mines over 20 hectares of cropland and unarmed more than 150 bombs in Chechnya. In all, three demolition squads have been formed there.

“The administrations of the Urus-Martan, Kurchaloi and Shali districts have assigned ambulance teams to support the miners. The police will cordon the mine cleaning zone on the perimeter,” Gorbul said.

In his words, the demining of Chechnya started in mid-March.
