MOSCOW, April 1 (Itar-Tass) —— The police confirmed the restricted access to Moscow’s Red Square and said the territory was a domain of the Federal Protective Service.

Reports posted on social networks on Sunday morning claimed that Red Square was blocked for pedestrians. The city police confirmed the information. “The Red Square is closed,” the police said.

The police also noted that the Federal Protective Service regulated public access to such areas as Red Square, Alexander Gardens and Vasilyevsky Spusk.

Itar-Tass learned from the police earlier that police patrols on Red Square had been reinforced due to the planned opposition action, “White Square.” The police said that more than 200 people planned the “White Square” flash mob on Sunday to protest against the weekly detentions of citizens who came to Red Square wearing white ribbons. The organizers said the action had no specific timeframe but anyone wishing to walk in the historical center of Moscow could do that any time on April 1. Almost 4,000 people, among them Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov, expressed their wish to take part in the action in their Facebook postings.
