BEIJING, March 26 (Itar-Tass) — China received an invitation for a second meeting of the Friends of Syria Group due in Turkey on April 1, but under the current conditions it does not consider its participation in this meeting so far, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a news conference on Monday.
“China has already received the relevant invitation,” the diplomat said adding that the world community’s actions should contribute to reducing tensions in Syria, promoting political dialogue, resolving discrepancies and contributing to protection of peace and stability in the Middle East.
He underlined that the Syrian crisis cannot be resolved without participation of all parties, while the world community should create necessary conditions for this.
The first meeting of the Friends of Syria Group took place in Tunisia in February. China refused to take part in the meeting saying that it needs to know more about the group’s aim and mechanism.
