NEW YORK, March 7. /ITAR-TASS/ Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney won with a narrow victory in the primary election in Ohio. After counting 96 percent of ballots, he won 38 percent of votes, his main rival - former Senator Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania - got 37 percent. Although the counting of votes has not been completed, the media unanimously declared Romney the winner.
Thus, according to the results of primary elections that took place on the so-called Super Tuesday in 10 states, Romney failed to gain a foothold as the undisputed leader and get Santorum to "withdraw from the race." This means that the election contest between the Republican candidates is prolonged.
As a result of "Super Tuesday" Romney took most of the states - five: he won in Massachusetts, Virginia, Vermont, Idaho and Ohio. The attention of observers was focused specifically on Ohio: no Republican candidate in history became president, without winning there.
Santorum managed to win in three states - Oklahoma, Tennessee and North Dakota. Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Newt Gingrich won in Georgia, which was quite predictable, since he spent two decades representing this state in the House of Representatives.
In the last of the ten states - Alaska - counting has not started yet.
