MOSCOW, March 1 (Itar-Tass) — Russian teachers in 2012 will have another pay rise, RF Education and Science Minister Andrei Fursenko said at a meeting of the Russian government's presidium on Thursday.

According to him, from the 60 billion roubles planned for these purposes 30 billion have already been transferred to regions. The second tranche will be transferred on July 1. “There will be another pay rise this year,” Fursenko promised, adding that region’s funds in the first place will be spent on this. “By the end of the year the issue of increasing teachers’ wages to the average in the regional economy will be settled,” the minister said.

In addition, Fursenko said that this year 4.5 thousand schools are to undergo capital repairs. “About 9 billion roubles is planned to be allocated for this purpose,” said the minister. He added that about half a million teachers will have to upgrade their skills. “Thus, each school will feel changes in the quality of teaching,” he believes.

“We should keep it all under control to avoid failures,” the RF prime minister said.
