Moscow is ready for close cooperation with the United Nations and LAS special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan

MOSCOW, February 24 (Itar-Tass) — Moscow is ready for close cooperation with the United Nations and LAS special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday.

Moscow supports the appointment of the former U.N. secretary-general Kofi Annan as special envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States for Syrian crisis, the diplomat said.

"We hope the authoritative politician's activities will help settle acute political and humanitarian problems in Syria on the basis of work with all the parties in the interests of peaceful settlement through a comprehensive political dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition," he noted.

Russia will be ready for close cooperation with him in the search for mutually acceptable ways to solve the problems, the diplomat said.
