MOSCOW, February 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Moscow's main investigation department of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the deputy head of the emergency situation department in the northern district of Moscow. He was detained on bribery suspicions on Thursday.

“The deputy head of the emergency situation department in the northern administrative district extorted a bribe of 1,100,000 roubles from a businessman for the cover-up of his company's business that specialized in the mounting and maintenance of fire-fighting automatic equipment,” a source in the Moscow law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

Otherwise, the colonel of the emergency situation service threatened to conduct fire safety inspections of the company and shut it down for fire safety violations, the source said.

“The suspected extortionist was detained in his office by the police when taking the foresaid bribe. The investigation bodies opened a criminal case under Article 209 of the Criminal Code for a major bribe,” the source said.
