KHABAROVSK, January 31 (Itar-Tass) — The Amur region’s Environmental Prosecutor’s Office jointly with officers of the Svobodny Transport Prosecutor’s Office and specialists of the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage (Rosprirodnadzor) are probing into a freight train incident with derailment of oil tank cars in the Bureya district, the Amur regional Prosecutor’s Office reported.
“During the check specialists will determine the scale of the incident, the area of ··pollution with petroleum products, will take related samples and calculated the damage caused to the environment,” the regional prosecutor’s aide Valentin Bursyanin said. Prosecutorial response measures will be taken if violations are detected.
According to senior aide to the head of the Amur region’s investigation department of the RF Investigative Committee (SK) Alexei Lubinsky, the head of the Amur region department of SK Andrei Golombiyevsky is working at the scene.
The freight train incident occurred in the Bureya district on Tuesday morning. Seventeen of the train’s total 68 tank cars derailed. Oil from the overturned tank cars spilt and caught fire. By noon the fire was not completely extinguished.
