MOSCOW, January 27 (Itar-Tass) — The average size of a bribe in Russia amounted to almost 240,000 roubles in 2011, the press service of the Russian Interior Ministry's main department for economic security and corruption counteraction told Itar-Tass on Friday, after the meeting that discussed the results of the department's work for last year.
The average size of a bribe and commercial graft rose by more than 3.5 times in the detected crimes. It is 236,000 roubles, a departmental official said.
Speaking at the meeting, the department’s chief Denis Sugrobov noted that on the whole the amount of returned funds to make up for the damage increased by more than 1.5 times. It totals 4.5 billion roubles that were returned to the state budget and citizens, he said.
Besides, 138 crimes were detected and 107 persons were found involved in the crimes in the area of medical equipment purchases last year.
Criminal cases were opened against the Chelyabinsk Region's former health minister, heads of health ministries and health departments of the Republic of Chuvashia, the Kaliningrad, Ulyanovsk, Kurgan, Oryol, Rostov, Smolensk, Sverdlovsk and Tula regions, the Altai Territory and against other high-ranking officials.
