Shoigu supports protesters, but warns of 1993 events recurrence

“At present, the situation looks like that in autumn of 1993, when there were mass rallies and tensions,” Emergencies Minister said

MOSCOW, December 27 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s Emergencies Minister Sergei Shoigu said he supported people, who take to streets to demand respect for their rights and freedoms, but warned of the situation like that back in 1993, when the country faced the constitutional crisis.

“At present, the situation looks like that in autumn of 1993, when there were mass rallies and tensions,” he said urging the society to avoid recurrence of such events.

“I support all those, who take to streets to protest, first of all, demanding respect to them, and this is the right thing,” he said.
