MOSCOW, December 24 (Itar-Tass) —— Organizers of the rally "For Honest Elections" have collected almost four million roubles through social networks to organize the rally of many thousands that will take place on Sakharov Avenue in Moscow on December 24, a member of the rally organizing committee, journalist Olga Romanova said.
Through the electronic payment system Yandex.Money, almost four million have already come, and money continues coming from all over Russia, she told the concluding meeting of the organizing committee.
Earlier, organizers said three million roubles were needed -- "for good sound and a normal stage". About 400,000 rbls remain in the account at present, Romanova added.
According to the committee meeting, three large screens will be installed on Sakharov Avenue to broadcast video addresses of well-known people who cannot participate in the rally. Among them are Leonid Parfyonov, Yuri Shevchuk and Vladimir Pozner.
Up to 50,000 people are expected to gather for the rally, organizers say.
More than 60,000 have confirmed in the social networks that they will participate. Almost 46,000 of them are Facebook users. To compare, the number of those wishing to go for the December 10 rally on Bolotnaya Square was almost 7,000 fewer.
Journalist Olga Romanova, opposition politician Vladimir Ryzhkov and sport commentator Vasily Utkin are chosen by the organizers as hosts of the rally.
The meeting of the initiative group approved the list of speakers who were also elected in the social networks. Among them are blogger Alexei Navalny, writer Boris Akunin, poet Dmitry Bykov, Boris Nemtsov, Garry Kasparov, Ksenia Sobchak and others. According to the organizers, ex-Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev and businessman Mikhail Prokhorov, who intends to run for the Russian presidency, are also expected to come.
