MOSCOW, December 22 (Itar-Tass) — An overall distance to which traffic jams had spread in Moscow by Monday morning is equal to a distance from Moscow to Novosibirsk, Leonid Mednikov -- an analyst of a Yandex portal, said. The overall length of traffic jams and other obstacles on Moscow roads is 3,400 kilometers, according to Yandex estimates, Mednikov said.
Like on Wednesday morning the snowfall seriously worsened the traffic situation in the city. Traffic jams spreading to many kilometers and other problems have been reported on almost all the motorways both ways. The Leninsky, Michurinsky, Andropov Prospects and Lipetskaya Street in the southwest of the city are the worst hit by the snowfall. There are also several traffic jams 10-20 kilometers each on the Moscow Ring Road. Drivers have also confronted serious problems in the city center.
On Thursday morning the traffic load had been growing slower than on the previous day, with a nine-point load registered at 9.10 am or twenty minutes later than on Wednesday. A usual traffic load in the city in the morning is six points.
On Thursday the morning rush hours are expected to continue longer than usual. Usually, traffic jams dissolve after 9.00 am, while on Thursday the situation had even worsened by that time. On Wednesday, a nine-point traffic load continued until 11.00 am.
