MOSCOW, December 8 (Itar-Tass) —— Sales of car and light commercial vehicles on the Russian market went up by 41 percent in the eleven months of 2011 compared with the same period in 2010 and reached 2,402,043 vehicles, the Association of European Business reported on Thursday.
In November 2011, sales grew by 26 percent to amount to 239,539 cars.
Among the top ten bestselling models of passenger cars nine are produced in Russia.
“The 26-percent increase for the month of November and prospects for December now indicate a full year market of 2.6 million cars and light commercial vehicles, higher than our previous forecast of 2.55 million,” said David Thomas, the chairman of the Association’s Automobile Manufacturers Committee. “This will mean that for the full year the total industry volume will increase by nearly 37 percent compared to 2010. However, we do not at this stage see any cause to revise upwards our initial forecast for 2012 of 2.8 million cars and light commercial vehicles though this will lead to a much lower year to year growth of less than 8 percent for the coming year."
The most bestselling car models in the eleven months of 2011 were Lada cars (535,215), Chevrolet cars (157,064), and Hyundai cars (146,981).
