KIEV, November 29 (Itar-Tass) — Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich may sack the government of Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov, and first Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Klyuyev is expected to become new prime minister, Ukrainian LigaBusinessinform news agency reports on Tuesday referring to a source close to the president’s team.
According to LigaBusinessinform, the resignation of the government is predetermined. “The Sunday incident in Donetsk, when a miner died during the demolition of a tent camp with protesters may become one of the arguments in favor of that,” it said.
The main argument is unpopularity of the prime minister and his government against the background of mass protests of different social groups.
According to the source, it was initially decided that Azarov would work till spring. “But we have an opinion that his rating will be very low by that time,” he said. The candidacy of the new head of the Cabinet of Ministers has already been coordinated with President Viktor Yanukovich, and Andrei Klyuyev may take the office, the source added.
The presidential administration has made no comments on this information as of yet. The government led by Azarov has been functioning since March 2010. It was formed after Viktor Yanukovich had won the presidential election.
