Russia’s Duma hails lifting of no-fly zone over Libya

“In essence, October 31 is due to sign an end to the Western military operation in Libya,” Leonid Slutsky said

MOSCOW, October 27 (Itar-Tass) – Russia’s State Duma, the lower house of parliament hails the unanimous vote at the UN Security Council on lifting a no-flight zone over Libya.

“The Security Council’s resolution on lifting the no-flight zone returns a full national sovereignty to Libya and gives it a full-blown opportunity to build a model of democracy of its own without external interference,” Leonid Slutsky, first deputy chairman of the Duma foreign policy committee said.

“In essence, October 31 is due to sign an end to the Western military operation in Libya,” he said.

Yet the incumbent authorities in that country will have to contribute their best efforts to stabilizing the situation, establishing order and peace and developing a democratic society, Slutsky warned.

“The world community will assist Libya in moving along that path but I hope this assistance will be an exceptionally humanitarian one,” he said.
