MOSCOW, October 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia and Iceland signed on Tuesday an intergovernmental agreement on tourism cooperation. The ceremony took place at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry within the framework of a bilateral business forum.
“The document declared the readiness of our countries to build up tourism cooperation. It is necessary to help Russian and Iceland tour operators establish lasting contacts,” Iceland Industry, Energy and Tourism Minister Katrin Juliusdottir said.
In her words, Aeroflot – Russian Airlines and Iceland Air are negotiating direct flights. “Regular air traffic will start next year for facilitating formalities for tourists of both countries,” she said.
Federal Tourism Agency head Alexander Radkov said that the tourism cooperation potential was far from being used in full. “We need an active promotion campaign, direct air traffic and lesser visa formalities,” he noted.
The number of Russian tourists, who have been to Iceland, may top 600,00 by the end of this year. “That is a lot,” Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice-President Vladimir Strashko said.
