Uzbekistan’s GDP growth exceeds 8 percent in January-September 2011

Uzbekistan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in January-September 2011 was 8.2 percent on the same period last year, the republic’s cabinet of ministers said on Thursday

TASHKENT, October 20 (Itar-Tass) — Uzbekistan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in January-September 2011 was 8.2 percent on the same period last year, the republic’s cabinet of ministers said on Thursday.

Industrial production in January-September 2011 grew by seven percent as compared with January-September 2010, while the growth of agricultural produce was 6.8 percent. The state budget surplus was 0.4 percent of GDP. Exports went up by 21.4 percent.

As many as 828 production facilities in such sectors of the economy as the food, light and chemical industries, machine-building and production of building materials were commissioned in the nine months of 2011.

Foreign investments exceeded 2.3 billion U.S. dollars.

Small business accounted for 50.5 percent of GDP, against 48.5 percent in 2010.
