UNITED NATIONS, September 22 (Itar-Tass) — Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev said from the rostrum of the 66th session of the U.N. General Assembly that his country supported the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
“Kazakhstan supports the creation a Palestinian state,” he said.
“The Palestinian people who are as long-suffering as the people of Israel have been involved in negotiations for more than 50 years. It’s impossible to achieve stable peace in the Middle East without an independent state of Palestine,” the Kazakh leader went on to say.
Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the Palestinian National Authority, said earlier that he intended to seek Palestine’s recognition as an independent state at the U.N. General Assembly on September 23 and ask to recognize it as a full-fledged member of the United Nations.
However, the U.S. administration has repeatedly threatened to veto the Palestinian application if it was going to be submitted at the current session of the United Nations General Assembly.
U.S. President Barack Obama said on Wednesday that peace wouldn’t come to the Middle East as a result of a United Nations resolution.
