VLADIVOSTOK, September 19 (Itar-Tass) —— A collision of a boat with a freighter in the Zolotoi Rog (Golden Horn) Bay in the centre of Vladivostok on Sunday that killed one and injured two persons is blamed on the boat captain who seriously violated navigation rules, a spokesman for the Far Eastern transport investigation administration of the Russian Investigations Committee said on Monday.
The accident occurred in the area of berth No. 47 of the Vladivostok Fishing Port at 18:40 local time (11:40 Moscow time). A private boat, which, according to updated data, carried 10 people, collided with the Unix sea freighter (homeport Korsakov) and later sank. After the collision, the boat’s crew and passengers and one person from the sea freighter fell in the water. Passing vessels rescued all of them, although one man, Vadim Otkidach, 35, a boxing coach, died. The boat’s owner and captain was hospitalized with serious injuries, a spokesman for the Far Eastern emergencies centre told Itar-Tass.
A pre-investigation check has been launched.
