Russia seeks to host next meeting of SCO heads of state council

The meeting will mainly focus on economic and humanitarian cooperation, said Russia’s coordinator in the SCO, Kirill Barsky

BEIJING, September 14 (Itar-Tass) — Russia proposes to host the next meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Moscow on November 7, Russia’s coordinator in the SCO, Kirill Barsky, told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

He is taking part in the meeting of the Council of National Coordinators of the SCO that is underway in Beijing.

“Russia has proposed to host the next meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO and now intensive preparations are underway,” he said.

He noted that the meeting will mainly focus on economic and humanitarian cooperation.

“Heightened attention will be given to these two areas in the SCO’s activities along with security issues such as the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and other transnational crimes,” Barsky said.

The upcoming meeting will allow to discuss the situation in the global economy and the economy of SCO member-states and draw the guidelines for its recovery.

It is expected that heads of state will sign a joint communique and some other documents.

The SCO includes Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The SCO observer nations are India, Pakistan, Iran and Mongolia, while Sri Lanka and Belarus have the status of dialogue partners in the SCO.
