The Russian Defense Ministry spokesman says the situation in Eastern Ghouta improves
MOSCOW, April 13. /TASS/. The Russian Center for Reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria together with Syrian authorities has almost completed a large-scale operation in Eastern Ghouta, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov told reporters on Friday.
"The Russian Center for Reconciliation together with Syrian authorities has almost completed a large-scale humanitarian operation in Eastern Ghouta. As many as 170,152 people, including 63,117 militants and their family members, left the area during the operation," he said.
Syria’s government forces have taken control of all of the Eastern Ghouta, Konashenkov noted, adding that Russian military police units had been deployed to the enclave to monitor the situation and maintain law and order.
"As the situation in Eastern Ghouta improves, civilians return to their homes. Around 63,000 people have already returned," the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said.
