Ukraine greenlights import of more than 13,000 Russian books
At the start of 2017, Kiev introduced a law prohibiting the import of "foreign products" deemed "anti-Ukrainian"
KIEV, April 10. /TASS/. On Tuesday, the State Committee for Television and Radio-Broadcasting of Ukraine published a list of Russian literature approved for import into the country. The list consists of 13,381 items.
According to the document, in 2018 alone the committee allowed 4,392 Russian books to be imported into Ukraine.
Earlier, an extensive list of banned books from Russia and the self-proclaimed republics of DPR and LPR was published on the State Committee’s website, containing 165 items. According to Kiev, the books’ content aims to "liquidate [Ukraine’s] independence", "propagandize violence" and "stir up national, racial and religious hatred".
At the start of 2017, Kiev introduced a law prohibiting the import of "foreign products" deemed "anti-Ukrainian". In April 2017, the Ukrainian government began implementing the law by approving an order for obligatory withdrawal of printed output produced in Russia and exported to Ukraine without a corresponding permit. Those who breached this law were fined. The right to allow or prohibit the distribution of Russian books in Ukraine is in the purview of the State Committee for Television and Radio-Broadcasting, which bases its decisions on the conclusions of an expert council.
