Assad expects Russia to play key role in post-war reconstruction of Syria
According to the Syrian president, Russia will be "an important partner in the process of reconstruction in various sectors"
MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. The victory over terrorists "has created conditions for accelerating the process of restoring the Syrian economy," Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said, as cited by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
Assad received a Russian government delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin in Damascus.
According to the Syrian president, Russia will be "an important partner in the process of reconstruction in various sectors."
Russia-Syria cooperation
Dmitry Rogozin’s visit to Damascus will help boost cooperation between Syria and Russia in the fields that were not considered as vital in the past, Bashar al-Assad pointed out.
Assad stressed that since Rogozin’s previous visit to the country, Moscow and Damascus had managed to achieve meaningful results. He added that a number of Russian companies were already active in Syria. Assad also said that economic activities in Syria had intensified in the wake of the improving security situation.
According to the Syrian president, such visits give impetus to economic activities and advance the existing projects in various fields. "This visit may also help us boost cooperation in other fields, which were not mentioned earlier, when we determined the priorities of our economic relations," Assad said.
Rogozin said earlier that Syria particularly planned to cooperate only with Russia in restoring energy production. When speaking about possible joint projects, the Russian deputy prime minister mentioned oil producing facilities, infrastructure facilities, railroads, ports and the energy sector.
